On 5th October, our schoolmates from THEi and I went to join the 42rd Tolo Harbour Race 2014 as volunteers. This year, there were more than 1400 participants.  On that day at 7:30am, we had a briefing about the run down of the whole event. At 8am, we started to help participants to check in and assigned some harbour race supplies to them before the harbour race started. At 9:30am, we sent the participants to Sha Lan Beach(the start point of the Harbour Race). About 12pm, participants started to arrive the finish point and we started to give them some towels and certificates. And the event finished at about 1pm.

Here's some manage problem in this event.  First, the instructor did not told us any detail of the event and I think that's not good enough. Before 5th October, we only knew the event called "42rd Tolo Harbour Race 2014" and we needed to arrived to the Taipo Sport Association at 7am. I think if the organization can provided more information to us before 5th October, we can handle our duty better.

Also, the briefing in the morning was not clear enough to provide us enough information. As the briefing not clear enough, some problem occurred. For example, during the briefing, we only knew there were about 1500 participant and their check in numbers started from 0001 to 15XX and instructor did not told us there were some elite group and their number began from 2XXX. When participant who joint the elite group came to check in, we did not knew why their number where 2XXX and only can sent them to our instructor. Later on, the instructor still did not told us why and we need to find another instructor to ask and finally knew the answer and knew how to handle. Sum up, the organizer do not have enough communication with us in this event.

First tips of successful sports and recreation management: have a good communication with your staff.
